Mad Science (2024)
Jam band from New England, USA.
Blending a wide array of styles and instruments.
Funky baselines, playful drum changes, and even fiddling dueling with electric guitars
Ever developing ideas that go on for over 10 minutes at a time. Leaning and thriving on jamming and space to solo, the womps feel at home with bringing new ideas and a massive blend of styles. Blues, funk, jazz, rock, and country all come together and make a sum greater than their individual parts.
Music is a conversation, and it can really be heard in this record. Particularly on the fiddle and its hypnotic processing on “Fishscale ”
Improvisation is visible in the band’s DNA, which makes it all the more exciting to see the chemistry of this band live. (Highly recommended to see their Chill House studio session.)
Bands that keep such a lively soul with familiar and accessible sounds but elevate them to such proficiency are quite a delight to listen to.
Don’t sleep on this album; it’s quite a hidden gem from last year.
